Tilghman Island on is surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay. The Island is separated from the mainland by Knapps Narrows and is easily accessed by drawbridge.  Tilghman Island is a must see if you are visiting the Eastern Shore.

Tilghman Island is located in the central Bay region at the end of a long peninsula which is a part of “Bay Hundred,” minutes from historic St. Michaels, Oxford and Easton. The Island in Talbot County is near Maryland and Delaware Beach resorts such as Ocean City and Rehobeth and a leisurely drive from many major cities such as Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia.   Tilghman Island is one of very few working watermen’s villages still remaining along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay.  It is a community that embraced its roots in the commercial seafood industry and still flourishes today.   It is also home to the last commercial sailing fleet in North America, the skipjacks, which are on display at Dogwood Harbor.

Enjoy the savory riches of the Chesapeake Bay in Tilghman Island, MD

Tilghman Island has long since been a small community that relies on the bounty of the Chesapeake Bay.  Although the numbers of active watermen are decreasing, there are still several on the Island, and in many cases multiple generations of watermen still reside in Tilghman and harvest fish, crabs and oysters from the Bay.  Although remaining a small waterman’s village, Tilghman has evolved into a multi- faceted community which includes retirement communities, yacht clubs and up scale waterfront developments.  Fresh seafood abounds at the many waterfront restaurants dotting the island as well as boatyards and marinas catering to visitors from the sea.  Property values have remained more affordable than other portions of Talbot County because Tilghman Island is slightly off the beaten path.  This has also allowed Tilghman to retain much of its local color and characters!
